Indian Institute of Crafts and Design

As an institute, the Indian Institute of Crafts and Design teaches programmes that combine craft practice with contemporary design, covering areas such as textile and soft material design, hard material and product design, and related fields of applied craft. Teaching is studio-based, with workshop practice, material exploration and field engagement with artisan clusters forming a large part of the course. Admission to its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes is decided by the institute through its own selection stages, which typically assess drawing and visual ability, material sense, creative reasoning and general awareness, followed by a personal interaction round.

Because selection is institutional rather than centralised, results are not transferable to other colleges. Programme structure, seat intake, selection stages and the schedule are published by the institute each admission cycle, and applicants should rely on that notification rather than on generic entrance-test descriptions.
