About Himachal Pradesh Common Entrance Test
HPCET is organised as a set of separate papers, one for each admission stream, so a candidate takes the paper matching the course applied for. The undergraduate engineering paper is based on the class 12 physics, chemistry and mathematics syllabus; the pharmacy paper draws on physics, chemistry and biology or mathematics; and the postgraduate papers test the subject knowledge and aptitude relevant to management, computer applications or the chosen engineering discipline. All papers use objective questions with a published marking scheme.
Ranks generated from the test feed into the online counselling run by the university, in which candidates fill choices and are allotted seats in engineering, pharmacy, management and computer application programmes across affiliated government and private colleges in Himachal Pradesh. The number of questions, duration, syllabus and mode of the test for each paper are set out in the annual information brochure released by Himachal Pradesh Technical University.
